DALLAS -- The Dallas Stars top goal scorers got major help on Friday night. Seven different Stars scored in a 7-3 victory over the Nashville Predators. Tyler Seguin or Jamie Benn was not among them. Each player had an assist. Colton Sceviour, Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt each had a goal and an assist. Alex Goligoski had three assists, tying his career high. Going into the game, Seguin had 75 points and Benn 69. Dallas third-highest scorer was Goligoski, with 33. Vernon Fiddler, whose first-period goal was his fifth this season, said: "Its nice to get some depth scoring. At the end of the day, weve got to continue to do that. The big guns need some help with that, and it takes a little bit of pressure off of them." Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen allowed three goals on 28 shots. Pekka Rinne had 22 saves. After Nashville pulled within 5-3 in the third period on Eric Nystroms goal, Valeri Nichushkin and Cody Eakin scored 9 seconds apart for a 7-3 edge. Nichushkins unassisted goal went off Predators defenceman Shea Webers stick. "We tipped two in our own net," Weber said. "They got one off the skate, and then they scored off the rush. They got a little bit of everything, and it just wasnt good enough for us." Thats why Nashville coach Barry Trotz didnt consider pulling Rinne. "Not really, even when they got six and seven. Six and seven were deflected. There was nothing you could do about it." Stars coach Lindy Ruff, who preaches putting pucks on the net, was pleased about the four goals that deflected off teammates sticks or bodies. "We got some good breaks. We had a couple put in by their defencemen. We got enough pucks going to the net, and got rewarded for it." Goals by Garbutt and Fiddler gave the Stars a 2-0 lead after one period. Sceviour, Alex Chiasson and Daley scored in the second period that ended with a 5-2 advantage for Dallas. The Predators Patric Hornqvist and Michael Del Zotto also scored in the second. The victory improved Dallas playoff hopes. The Stars have 81 points -- three behind Phoenix, which has the Western Conferences last playoff position. The Stars have nine games remaining, including a game Saturday at St. Louis. Phoenix has eight to play. The game started well for the Stars against Nashville, which was coming off a 6-1 win over Buffalo on Thursday. "They looked fresh," Trotz said. "They jumped on us. I dont know how many pucks we just got it to the red line and just turned it over and they transitioned on us, and its hard to play that way. Youre spending your energy in the wrong area." Garbutt gave Dallas a 1-0 lead when he tipped Antoine Roussels pass from the right corner past Rinne. The Stars took a 2-0 lead on a 2-on-1 rush at 14:05 of the first. As a defender slid to the ice attempting to block a shot, Sceviour passed across to Fiddler on the right side, and he drilled a snap shot into the net. Dallas outshot the Predators 9-5 in the first period. Nashvilles best chance to score came on the only shot during the power play, when Craig Smiths shot from the top of the left circle went off Lehtonens pads. Goligoski and Daley, Fridays starting defensive pair, each finished with plus-5 ratings. Ruff said: "Thats a good night when youre plus-5 on the score sheet. I think youve seen by ice times these last 30-40 games how much we think of that pair and how much difference they can make. They made some real good plays for us." LOUIS - Two-thirds of the St.LONDON -- Fernando Torres capped off an impressive attacking display for Chelsea by seizing on Manchester Citys defensive blunder in the 90th minute to clinch a 2-1 victory in the Premier League on Sunday. After Chelsea substitute Willian launched the ball forward, City goalkeeper Joe Hart found himself exposed on the edge of the penalty area and defender Matija Nastasic managed to head the ball over his own goalkeeper. In a run that encapsulated his energetic performance at Stamford Bridge, Torres raced onto the loose ball and sent it into the unguarded net. "I dont think this is the moment to say who is to take (blame)," City manager Manuel Pellegrini said. "They scored the goal and we will analyze it in the week." The second half had begun badly for Chelsea when Sergio Aguero cancelled out Andre Schuerrles opener, which had been set up by Torres. But Torres late winner ensured Chelsea ended the weekend still two points behind leader Arsenal, while City dropped to seventh. "We are happy because it is our first win against a contender for the Premier League," Torres said. Although it was Torres first league goal of the season, it was the Spain strikers third this week after also scoring twice at Schalke in the Champions League on Tuesday. And it ensured that two of Sundays goals were scored by former Atletico Madrid strikers -- Torres and Aguero -- in a meeting of one-time Real Madrid managers: Chelseas Jose Mourinho and Pellegrini. The early danger was all created by Mourinhos players. Gary Cahill volleyed over after just three minutes, but both sides were struggling to get sight of goal. Torres threw his body at Ramires deep ball after 28 minutes but was unable to get a shot in. Ramires tried to set up Torres again a minute later, but the end product was poor. Torres brought the ball down with his chest but scooped over with no defenders around him annd only Hart to beat.dddddddddddd. "When you are a player and you make a mistake you are finished for the game," Mourinho said. "After that you saw the best Fernando." And Torres was the creator of Chelseas opener. The City defence couldnt cope with the Spains strikers blistering pace as he rampaged down the right flank before squaring to Schuerrle, who swept the ball in from close range in the 33rd minute. Torres was popping up everywhere, and was only denied a goal by the crossbar in the 37th when he unleashed a shot on the turn from inside the penalty area. "He is sharp, he is powerful, the belief is high," Mourinho said of Torres. "So we are happy for him." In a first half when Petr Cech had little to do, the Chelsea goalkeeper had no trouble batting away a close-range shot from Aguero. But the Argentina striker was on target four minutes into the second half. He ran onto Samir Nasris throughball and got past Cahill before beating Cech at his near post. City kept up the pressure and Javi Garcia met David Silvas free kick with a header that Cech saved. When Eden Hazard went down in the penalty area under a challenge from City defender Pablo Zabaleta, Chelsea appealed for a penalty that wasnt given. Torres continued to search for his first league goal since May, but he flicked a header straight at Hart and lifted the ball over at the back post from Frank Lampards free kick. Cechs feet prevented Silva from giving City the lead, and Torres then produced the winner with the game about to enter stoppage time -- causing Mourinho to launch himself into the crowd behind the bench to celebrate with his son and other supporters. It was Chelseas third straight win, while City has now dropped 11 points in nine games. The only consolation for City is that they remain two points ahead of reigning champion and neighbour Manchester United. ' ' '
