NEW YORK -- Kevin Garnett will sit out a fourth straight game because of back spasms Friday when the Brooklyn Nets visit Boston, missing his last trip this season back to his old home. Garnett last played a week ago in Denver. He has since been sidelined for victories over Milwaukee, Chicago and Memphis. Rookie Mason Plumlee has been starting at centre in place of Garnett, who came to Brooklyn from Boston along with Paul Pierce in a draft-night trade. The Celtics played video tributes for both players when the Nets won in Boston in January. On Thursday, the Nets signed Jorge Gutierrez from Canton of the NBA Development League to a 10-day contract. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees have called the Angles about the availability of Kendrick who is entering the final year of a four year, $33.5 million contract. Miami Marlins stud outfielder Giancarlo Stanton might soon be the recipient of the biggest contract in MLB history. According to Heyman of CBS Sports, the Marlins are close to signing the 25-year-old Stanton to a 13-year, $325 million contract. The deal would keep the outfielder with the Marlins through the year 2027. Heyman says the deal would havve a no-trade clause and could include an opt-out clause as well.dddddddddddd Stanton will become a free agent in two seasons if Miami doesnt lock him up. If the deal ends up coming to fruition, it would be the largest contract in professional sports history, beating Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers and his 10 year, $292 million deal signed last year. Stanton hit .288 with 37 homers and 105 runs batted in over 145 games in 2014, his fifth season in the Majors. He finished second to Clayton Kershaw in NL MVP voting this season. Closing Time The Houston Astros are reportedly interested in shoring up their bullpen by going after one of the top free agent closers. According to MLB.coms Brian McTaggart, the Astros are going after David Robertson, Sergio Romo and Andrew Miller. No More Wrens The Atlanta Braves traded minor league outfielder Kyle Wren to the Milwaukee Brewers for minor league pitcher Zach Quintana on Thursday.
