ST. LOUIS - The Cincinnati Reds bullpen continues to struggle. With and without closer Aroldis Chapman. The Reds wasted a lead for the fourth game in a row in dropping a 5-4 decision at St. Louis on Tuesday. Cincinnati built a 4-1 advantage behind a solid effort from starter Alfredo Simon. But relievers Jumbo Diaz and J.J Hoover were unable to hold onto the lead. The Reds also led 4-2 before losing 6-5 in 10 innings in the series opener on Monday. Manager Bryan Price is trying to mix and match with a taxed bullpen that is without Chapman, who missed his second consecutive game with a sore shoulder. "No Chapman makes it harder to dice up those last few innings," Price said. "Were vulnerable." The Reds used seven relievers in losing a doubleheader at Colorado on Sunday. They blew a 7-3 lead in the opener and a 4-2 lead in the nightcap. That heavy use, along with Chapmans absence, has put Price in a quandary. "Its not like we have guys in the (farm) system that have lit up the opportunity radar," he said. The Reds lost in walk-off fashion for the third time in the last four games on Tuesday. "We just have to keep looking ahead," Price said. Jon Jay was hit by a pitch from J.J. Hoover with the bases-loaded in the ninth inning, lifting the Cardinals to the win. The walk-off win was the second in as many nights for the Cardinals, who won for the fifth time in six games and remain 2 1/2 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central. Jhonny Peraltas RBI single in the tenth inning Monday provided St. Louis with a thrilling last at-bat triumph. Matt Holliday drew a leadoff walk to start Tuesdays winning rally. He advanced to third on Matt Adams single. After Peter Bourjos ran for Holliday, Peralta walked to load the bases. Hoover (1-10) then plunked Jay to force in Bourjos with the winning run. "Its not like you hope to get hit by a pitch every time," Jay said. "But Ill take it." St. Louis recorded its sixth walk-off win of the season. The Cardinals also posted back-to-back walk-off wins July 7-8 against Pittsburgh. The Reds lost in walk-off fashion for the third time in the last four games. They are a season-high 10 games out of first place. "(This) isnt fun," Cincinnati third baseman Todd Frazier said. "Its crazy, Ive never been around something like that. I never want to see it again." Jay scored the tying run in the eighth on pinch-hitter Daniel Descalsos RBI double off reliever Jumbo Diaz. "Call it whatever you want to call it, but were just playing better baseball right now," Descalso said. "Weve got down the last couple nights and weve come back. Thats always a good sign." Reliever Pat Neshek (6-0) picked up the win with a scoreless ninth inning. TRAINERS ROOM Cardinals: INF Mark Ellis was put on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain. Ellis, who is hitting .192 with 12 RBI, last played on Tuesday. INF Greg Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Memphis in time for Tuesdays contest. Garcia was hitting .273 with 40 RBI in 103 games for the Redbirds. JAY KEEPS ROLLING St. Louis OF Jon Jay extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the second, the first of two hits. He is 15 for 31 during the run and reached base four times Tuesday. UP NEXT Reds: RHP Johnny Cueto (15-6, 2.06) will start the final game of the three-game set. Cueto is 7-0 with a 2.24 ERA over his last eight starts. His seven-game winning streak is a career high. Cardinals: RHP Lance Lynn (13-8, 2.91) will make his team-leading 26th start of the season. A steal of two in the ninth sealed the win over Swedish skip Margaretha Sigfridsson, who throws lead stones but calls the shots as skip. Jones has now added Olympic gold to the world championship she won in 2008 as well as four Canadian crowns. In the process, she has matched Canadian skip Kevin Martins feat of winning the Olympic crown with a perfect record. Its Canadas second womens curling gold. The late Sandra Schmirler won the first in Nagano, Japan, in 1998. Britains Eve Muirhead, the 2013 world champion, defeated Switzerlands Mirjam Ott 6-5 for the bronze medal earlier in the day. Team Canada coach Mike Babcock was in the stands to witness the Canadian win, as were several members of the Swedish hockey team. No Canada womens team has even won a world championship since Jones rink, without third Kaitlyn Lawes, claimed the crown in 2008. Jones beat Sigfridssons route in the round-robin en route to that title. Jones, Lawes, second Jill Officer and lead Dawn McEwen dispatched Muirhead in the semifinal after going 9-0 in the round-robin. Canada downed Sweden 9-3 on the second day of the Olympic curling competition, with the Swedes shaking hands with two ends left. It was a tough start for Officer and Lawes, who thumped her broom in disgust at one point. Jones, who opened with hammer, had to take one in the first end after some aggressive curling by the Swedes had the Canadian skip holding last rock with three Swedish stones in the house. Jones hit and stuck for thhe single.dddddddddddd The Swedes tied it up, escaping with a single from a crowded house in the second. Lawes doubled off two Swedish rocks as the third was blanked. Canada capitalized in the fourth when Swedens Maria Prytz -- throwing fourth -- jammed on a double attempt with last rock and Jones drew for a deuce and a 3-1 lead. With Lawes and Officer struggling and Sweden holding hammer, Jones faced a house with three Swedish rocks counting as she threw her last stone. She hit and stuck, but leaving Sweden shot rock. Prytz tried to remove Canadian rocks for a big score but had to settle for two and a 3-3 tie. The sixth and seventh were blanked as the Swedes put rocks in the house and Canada cleaned them out. In the eighth, there was more action in the house. After freezes by Canada and Sweden, each team had a rock around the same distance from the button. Jones tried to draw for a possible two, happy to nudge the Swedish rock out of the way, but was short and Canada had to settle for one after a measurement. The Swedes went down 4-3 but high-fived because they had hammer. Jones nailed a pressure draw with her last rock of the ninth. That piled the pressure on Prytz, given the plethora of Canadian rocks in the house. The Swede wrecked her shot and Canada stole two. Prytz looked to the skies, as if wondering what she had to deserve such a fate. The Swedes have a rich history in curling at the Olympics, winning gold in 2006 and 2010 (via Anette Norberg) and bronze in 1998 (Elisabet Gustafson). Sigfridsson has lost four world championship finals: as third in 2002, lead in 2009 and as skip with her current team in 2012 and 2013. ' ' '
